Damn Yankees received 8 Helen Awards, the most of any production nominated this year- and let me tell you there were some fantastic productions- Washington D.C. is a seriously PROLIFIC theater town! Our production won 8 awards including Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, Best Choreographer, and the juggernaut prize, Best Musical- it’s Damn Yankees! I am honored to have received one of the eight awards with co-writers Doug Wright & Lynn Ahrens for Best Play or Musical Adaptation. What an honor it’s been to work on this “revisal,” to honor and revere the brilliance of the original writers Wallop, Abbott, Adler and Ross, while being given the greatest opportunity to contribute my own sense of story, ideas, humor, drama, and complexity to this golden-age musical.
