Five Fingers of funk is new musical I’m working on, book and lyrics by me, music composed by me and Justin Ellington (who is also the piece’s music director and ochestrator), and directed by Derrick Sanders. The musical, a soulful, complex look at a young, ambitious funk band in the 1970s, had its world premiere last year in Minneapolis. Though it did exceptionally well out there, with great audience turn out and stand out reviews in the area’s two leading newspapers ( The Star Tribune and Variety ), we’re still working on the show-trying to make the script better, tighten up the music, re-stage some things, etc. Presently, there are plans in the works to go back into rehearsals for a three week Chicago run in the spring of 2010, with an immediate transfer to New York following Chicago. Keep checking the website for more updates as dates and showtimes are confirmed, and peep the promo video that was produced for the run last fall: Five Fingers of Funk Promo Video

There is a dvd in existence, but due to Actors equity rules it cannot be distributed at this time. Seems like the rules are being oepned up a bit these days, so maybe in the near future it will be different! And by the way, I’ve een to that college, did something there about 10 or 12 years ago I think-I remember it being a great place

Are there any videos/ DVDs of your take on Oedipus Rex myth being distributed? I’d love to see it personally, and I expect I’d love to show it to my students at Nassau Community College.
